Bio

Carissa Yip is an American international master and three-time U.S. women's champion. She has been the highest-rated female under the age of 18 in the world, the top-ranked female player in the United States, and the youngest in history to earn the IM title. At the age of 10, she defeated a grandmaster, making her the youngest female player to accomplish such a feat.

Yip won the 2019 North American Junior Girls’ Championship (with 8.5/9 points) before winning back-to-back U.S. Junior Girls' Championships in 2019 and 2020. At the 2020 U.S. Women's Chess Championship, the 17-year-old scored 8/11 points, placing second behind GM Irina Krush by half a point.

In 2021, Yip won her first-ever U.S. Women's Championship, doing so by a 1.5-point margin. She won her second U.S. Championship in 2023. In 2024, she won her third championship and second in a row, starting with an amazing 8/8 score before winning with a round to spare and a final result of 8.5/11.
