Purpose of This Thread

The purpose of this thread is to bring enlightenment to Borg Admins so that everyone has the same understanding, the same vision, the same motivation. We are one. We are BORG!

Purpose of the Group "Borg Collective"

This is a sci-fi themed group where chess players that have an interest in any flavour of Sci Fi, particulary Star Trek (I think we can remove this--Star Trek is not a focus here, any sci fi is cool! BQ) can come together for the purpose of friendships, fellowships and of course, chess!

All views are welcome in the Collective and different ideas should be promoted and allowed to blossom into robust disscussion. Admins should note that there is no place for politics, religion, racial hate ( or any other antisocial behaviour ) in the Borg Collective or Chess.com.

Generaly speaking (boom boom) the new Admin is requested to take a period of time to settle in, meet the Admins at . . . .

... and say hello. Rome wasn't built in a day and the Borg will certainly be around tomorrow. We should take our time and discuss before making any sudden actions... we work together, as one. All are one with the Borg :-)

I think the most important thing is that the a new Admin has respect for the members that have been here since the beginning. They/we have our way of doing things and the last thing we need is change for the sake of change. The Borg have been around for a long time already and our longserving members deserve to be treated with the utmost respect.

That is not to say that new ideas are not welcome. They most certainly are, but use the above link to shoot the breeze before going off half cocked.

Admins are here to support the group and the Borg Queen and the last thing we need is the chooks turning to emus and kick the dunny door down. In other words, don't rush in and make any sweeping changes. Always discuss first!

Members

Our members are our core. Any member who hasn't logged into chess.com for more than 6 months should be removed from the group.

Members who have committed chess.com violations repeatedly, despite warnings, should be removed.

Anyone who admits to cheating should be removed immediately.

Members are good. Good members are better. Bad members work against our fair play philosophy.

New Members

All new members should be welcomed.

Invitations should always include a requirement of having an interest in SCI FI. Beyond that, there is no restriction. Anyone, any rating, is welcome provided they have an interest in sci fi.

Revision One (Rowan)

All new members are welcome and welcomed but the idea is to have a pathway avalible where chess leads to commentary on Sci Fi subjects.

Thinking aloud. The theme and the chess can work together to have folks chatting. Chat away and I come for you and the next thing you know is that your in game with the Borg.

Administrators

The Borg Collective has run for many years very successfully as it is. It has a core group that must be kept happy. The new Administrator is requested to use this group (Borg Collective Admin) to clear new ideas, matches etc.. This way we are all on the same page and moving together as Admins. Moving together as ONE.

Team Matches

Team matches should only be made against teams that are around the same size in memebers (or lower) than we are. Team size has a HUGE impact on Team Matches, so don't take on giant sized teams, it's pointless... and only sets us up to lose.

No AutoStarts. Our group must have time to muster troops when we are outgunned in a scheduled team match. Don't accept any challenge that is set to AutoStart. Dont' start a challenge that has AutoStart.

It is highly preferable, but not mandatory, that the teams we challenge have a sci fi flavour. The group is sci fi focused, so if we can challenge a sci fi group, all the better :-)
