Hello, I am Zoltan Medvegy, a GM from Hungary (peak FIDE 2572) available for lessons.

I have 20+ years of experience as an active grandmaster, and 10+ years being a chess coach.

If you feel like you are not progressing or are plateauing, the most likely reason is that you are making strategic mistakes that engines cannot explain, or you don’t understand/realize. This is why during our lessons we will:

1. Analyze Your Games - Pointing out patterns, to remove typical mistakes during games.
2. Analyze Positions - Learning how to find a plan, and evaluate a position properly.
3. Look at Typical Middlegames - Improving thinking process, becoming a better positional and tactical player.
4. Build an Opening Repertoire - Finding openings that fit your play style, and make sense for you.
5. Discuss Practical and Theoretical Endgames - Learning how to convert and/or salvage games.
6. Improve Time Management - Learning how to think faster (or slower).

I like ambitious students, young or old. I have worked with numerous students, many of them obtained FIDE titles or became youth national champions.  My top students are FM Matyas Palczert (since 2017) and IM Aron Pasti (since 2018), both of them became European rapid individual champion. I also work with hobby players at lower level. Some of them had amazing develepment during our work. Additionally, my 10-year-old daughter is a 2x Hungarian National Champion for her age group.

As a chess player I prefer strategic games and I enjoy improving my position move by move. I’m happy when I manage to control the position and I usually play long strategic games. As a researcher, I have obtained a PhD degree in studying fast and slow chess and non-chess decisions in the Hungarian University of Sports Science.

The rate of a lesson is $50 an hour, which includes homework, and analysis of games before the lesson (to not waste time). Feel free to contact me if you would like to schedule a lesson, or have any questions on concerns.
