Hello All. I started playing chess when I was 6. My stepfather, an expert, taught me the basics. For a short period of time, I was coached by GM Leonid Shamkovich. I played quite a bit throughout my teens and early twenties; I am a two time U.S. Open Class B Champion, and two time Scholastic State Champion. ( as part of my HS team) I love studying the games of the old masters; early 20th century in particular. (hence the name) All areas of chess theory were in their infancy, relatively few books were available, and there were NO COMPUTERS. Beautiful, Wild, Imaginative, and often Unsound Sacrifices, Combinations and Gambits were commonplace at every level. The games of the time were energetic and exciting.
I've always been very interested in the complex role of the pawn. I've written in-depth articles on Pawn Technique / Formation, & Opening Game Fundamentals.
Anyway, I'm always up for another game, so if you're feeling lucky then just punch that challenge button.
