We're excited to announce that the Chess.com Community Championships will continue next year with more events and a total of $40,000 in prizes! The 2025 cycle begins on January 13 with the Chess.com Puzzles Championship and will feature a different variant each month. Any member of the community can play by joining our Chess.com Community Club.

New to this cycle is Chess.com's most popular variant, 4-Player Chess. Aside from all the variants played in 2024, events will also include the Atomic and 3-Check variants. On top of that, the community will be able to vote to decide on the variant for the event happening in May, so stay tuned and vote for your favorite variant when the time comes!

Chess.com Community Championships 2025 schedule

The Chess.com Community Championships is the perfect opportunity for you to participate in an official prize event. It's also your chance to compete against established titled players—and maybe even pull off a huge upset if you catch them playing a variant they're unfamiliar with.

Throughout 2024, thousands of players participated in the eight events between May and December. GM Andrew Tang became the series' inaugural winner after defeating GM Daniel Naroditsky in the Chess.com Hyperbullet Chess Championship.

Since then, other strong masters have claimed their crown in multiple variants: GM Vladimir Fedoseev won the Chess960 Championship, GM Luca Moroni won Spell Chess, GMs Awonder Liang and Jeffery Xiong won Bughouse, IM Nhat Minh To won Duck Chess, and FM Luis Chan won Fog of War. Liang then returned to the podium as the Seirawan Chess champion (defeating his Bughouse partner Xiong in the Grand Final) before NM Janak Awatramani won the final event of 2024, the Chess.com Crazyhouse Chess Championship.

In 2025, most events will follow the same format as the last few events held this year. Any Chess.com member will be able to join the qualifiers, with the winner of each qualifier moving on to a double-elimination knockout Final.
