I competed in Qld Junior Championships over several years in Brissie back in the 80s', and had some decent results in 5 round swiss Open weekenders (time controls of 40/90 with a 30 minute allegro finish)  in North Qld during the 80s and 90s also.  I was an arbiter and director of play, as well as playing in these annual events. Gave up playing prior to 2000 when I moved too far away to attend regular club nights in Cairns or Atherton. Both clubs have long since folded, which leaves Townsville as the only semi active club in this area. So playing online is probably the next best thing these days! If you are playing online now -  and played chess in Qld then, you will probably know who I am! The TV series "Queens Gambit" brought me back to chess.........
