I first played chess when I was about 11, never had the game explained to me and was there to get beat by the kids whose parents knew how to play. Best I ever did was a draw. Then years later in my mid-twenties I taught myself and started winning a few. I would like to get up to a very strong club level, maybe 1800/1900 but I'm a way off yet. Sometimes chess is just a distraction from things I cant think about.
